I got a call this morning. It was from a dear friend who was needing help.
Seems there is a lot of ‘stuff’ going on in her family. She is worried a lot of decisions being made are not right ones.
Some hurtful words have been exchanged between members of her family and truly it seems to
be more a lack of communication, on their parts, than selfishness. The understanding and love that her family as believers, have given to so many others, is seemingly not coming forth in this present situation. So, what to do? She asked for me to join her in prayer. I did.
We asked for wisdom for all. We named everyone of the members of her family, and I in turn
asked for wisdom for myself and my family.
You know, so many times, we tune in to the television for wisdom. We need a good dose
of the daily news. Yes, it’s good to know what is going on in this world. We need to be an informed people and pray for our country and fellow man.
So, we go to the tube, or maybe someone disengaged who will tell us what we want to hear.
Where do you get your wisdom from?
I know that I am bad about settling in one of my comfortable chairs at night, remote in one
hand and cookies or chips in the other. I get that remote going- channel after channel- Let’s see
what’s on the history channel? The cooking channel! I need to know about this. Gosh, I love
home and garden. And so, the escape mechanism starts plugging away.
Please know there is NOTHING wrong with television or cooking for goodness sakes.
I just believe that sometimes we as believers have a glorious book at our disposal. The Bible.
A blueprint, if you will, full of God’s love and concern for us. Don’t we as people of God need
His daily wisdom? I know we have said many times, and I know I’ve heard this spoken, and said it myself,
. "I don’t know how people make it that don’t know the Lord. Why it’s
hard enough in this world, when you do know Him.
If we really ‘know’ the Lord, then don’t we realize His desire for our lives is to have as much
peace as possible. He desires us to truly know and turn to Him for our everyday problems.
. I think we suffer so much unnecessary stuff because we don’t take a little time out - ‘TIME OUT!" from everything going on around and in us. "Be still and know that I am God", but how can we experience that if we aren’t turning to Him for help. Yes, He puts others in our paths to help us. Maybe we turn a deaf ear at times to those He sends..
I think the Lord in His goodness and mercy, is trying to convince me and help me to once in
awhile, get out of the chair- put away the junk food- and meditate on His word.
Anyway, I know that the Lord will work these problems out for this family. He always does.
I wonder tho’ if the solutions would have come quicker? If the problems that are hitting them
would have even been there, if there had been more obedience on some of their parts.
I know that even with the problems God allows in our lives, there is hope, because God is at
work in it all. If we can ‘meditate’ on the Word a tad more, we can have that understanding when all is hurling around us, and realize God is at work in bringing what He is desiring to each
involved. Maybe we won’t be moved with fear and worry over so much of what we see going on
in this present world. Anyway, maybe television isn’t robbing you- maybe something else, but for me, tv has taken a lot of time I wish I had back.
Wisdom- God says it is the principle thing. Get wisdom. Cry aloud for it! Shout for it!
Proverbs 2:
My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for
understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you
will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom.
He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless.
He guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.
"Lord, help us. Help me. To seek you more. More of your wisdom. More of your truths.
Television is great Lord. It’s fun. It’s informative. I should know.
I’ve enjoyed many a program thru the years, but sometimes in my desire to chill out,
in fact, many, many times, I could have found the answer to my problems in your Word Lord.
Certainly, I could gain more peace from You than from the cookies I devour.
I know that you are with us. You will and do work for the good of your people. This of course, brings glory and honor to you and allows us to see a true Father’s love for his children.
Sometimes our complacencies and ‘quick fixes’ to this flesh, keep us from seeing the
true picture we need to tune in to. You have the solutions to our everyday problems, if only we
ask and seek you. . One thing about it Lord, your solutions are awesome-
not just ‘quick fixes.’You teach us thru the trials, how to overcome, and form in us, an acceptance of your parental love. This love available for all your creation.
Help us Lord to turn to you.. I pray in Jesus Name. Thank you.
